Nicholas’s career was not always certain. In 1999, he earned a B.A. in Art with a minor in Film Studies at the University of Rhode Island. While he enjoyed painting and illustration, he chose not to pursue it as a full-time occupation. In 2002 he moved to Los Angeles, where he worked as a manager at the Knitting Factory, a popular music venue in Hollywood.
Nick and his wife decided to move to Boston in 2008. This is when he discovered the North Bennet Street School. After spending ten minutes talking to David Betts, the head of the piano technology department and a master technician, Nicholas had found the right place.
Being in one of the top schools in the world for piano technology, Nicholas found himself immersed in the highly specialized and challenging world of high-end piano maintenance and rebuilding. In 2011, he graduated from North Bennet Street, where he completed the full two-year piano technology program. He then quickly found work tuning for Berklee College of Music and Williams Piano Shop, a Yamaha dealership in Brookline, MA. Around this time, he also took a number of rigorous tests to receive a certificate as a Registered Piano Technician.
Looking for new opportunities in the industry and a reason to move away from the brutal winters(and summers) of Boston, Nicholas ended up crossing paths with David Andersen Pianos. David had been introduced to him by his friend and fellow North Bennet alumni, Ryan Maas, now a work partner with Nicholas at the prestigious Colburn School of Music. Following numerous illuminating conversations with David via telephone, he felt it was time to take his career to the next level; the high-end realm of piano service. In 2014, Nicholas along with his wife Rachel and their little dog, moved back to Los Angeles. This is when he started working extensively with David Andersen pianos. With his many years of phenomenal expertise, David has been instrumental in helping Nicholas strive to refine the art and craft of high-end, custom piano service and maintenance.
Nicholas has now worked on hundreds of pianos for David Andersen. He is committed to making each piano function at its highest potential and envisions a productive and fruitful career working in partnership with David Andersen Pianos.
